Budget Automatic Knives

There are quite a few automatic knives out there, but here are a few we think are exceptionally good that will also be nice to your bank account:

Boker Kalashnikov

The Kalashnikov is a huge bang for your buck. It has to be one of the most popular knives out there, and with a name like Kalashnikov, it’s no surprise; the Merriam-Webster dictionary says a “Kalashnikov” is “a Soviet-designed assault rifle.” Whether or not it was intended, I have to say, the definition is extremely accurate for this knife. The Kalashnikov is a compact powerhouse, and the blade deploys rapidly with the push of a button. It has an AUS-8 stainless steel blade, and the finger grooves on the handle make for easy gripping and use. It is also available with several different blade shapes.

(For those who prefer a smaller knife, there is also the Mini Kalashnikov.)

Schrade Smedy

The Smedy is another knife that will surprise you pleasantly. The knife is a convenient size, so you can easily carry it in your pocket without it being burdensome. The blade deployment is lightning fast, and the price is right; at Grindworx, the Smedy is selling for just $19.99. What you get for that price is a quality knife with quick blade deployment and smooth action. If you’ve been contemplating getting an automatic knife, the Smedy is the perfect knife to diversify your collection with.

Smith & Wesson Extreme Ops

The Extreme Ops is similar in functionality to the Kalashnikov; it has fast, powerful blade deployment, and it is virtually the same length as the Kalashnikov (7.75” compared to the Kalashnikov’s 7.6”). The aluminum handle makes the knife light in hand, and the added grooves provide needed gripping on the handle. The Extreme Ops really succeeds at packing great quality and functionality into a reasonably priced knife.
